Dr Martin McBrien

Martin's PhD was part of the WellMet2050 project. He invented a new casting process, 'Tailor Blank Casting' that allows the continuous casting of profiled sheets to avoid the yield loss associated with cutting irregular shaped products from rectangular sheets. In his PhD he built a demonstration of the process that showed it was possible to continuously cast aluminium sheets with rapid variations in width. Martin now works for Cambridge Mechatronics developing optical image stabilisation technology for smartphone cameras.
